Private Fostering is where the parent or parents of a child make a private arrangement with someone who is not a close relative, to care for that child for a period of 28 days or longer. The child must be under the age of 16, or under the age of 18 if disabled. Would you be able to recognise a Private Fostering Arrangement and know what you should do?

This session is for professionals working with children and it will enable you to:

  • Understand what a Private Fostering arrangement is
  • Gain a better understanding of the risks and vulnerabilities of Privately Fostered children
  • Discover your duties and what you need to do as a professional if you become aware of a Private Fostering arrangement
  • Understand the role and duties of local authorities with regards to Private Fostering
  • Learn where to go for further advice and guidance on Private Fostering.
